Welcoming the new Commissioner of Insurance

Lunch with Mr. Clement Cheung

The IFAA hosted a lunch on 27 September 2006 to welcome the new Commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Clement Cheung.

On September 27, our Councilors met with Mr. Clement Cheung, the Commissioner of Insurance and Mr. David Liu, Senior Insurance Officer, and two executives from the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) over a luncheon.

A number of issues were discussed during the meeting including the need for sterner measures against improper practices to protect the investing public. Of particular concern were the recent cases of fraud reported in the industry. Mr. Cheung hoped the continued communication between the industry and regulatory bodies will help to improve the situation and provide a more secure environment for consumers. Mr. Cheung and his team were also open-minded in their response to the IFAA concerns about compliance issues.
